Permits - Highway Department

Apply On-line for Wood County Highway Permits

You may submit certain permit applications and track your permit status on-line. Email notifications and mobile-enabled viewing make it easy to keep on top of permit approval in or out of the office. Additional on-line permit application types will be available in the future.

You must obtain a Wood County Highway permit for the following:

Seasonal Weight Restriction Permit

Straight Truck Single Trip Cost: $300.00
Straight Truck Multi-Trip (up to 3 trips): $600.00
Tractor Trailer Single Trip Cost: $400.00
Tractor Trailer Multi-Trip (up to 3 trips): $800.00

For moving a truck or other equipment at 80% of the maximum authorized weight based on axle groupings and spacing on county roads during seasonal weight restrictions.

Essential Services in Seasonal Weight Restrictions

Seasonal Permit Cost: $300.00

For the operation of trucks used for essential services (raw milk hauling, septic, and waste disposal, etc.) during seasonal weight restriction period.

Essential Services Permit Application

Alteration to County Highway Access

Cost: Varies, see application

Any time a new access point is needed off of a County Trunk Highway, you will need to obtain a "Highway Access Control Permit". You must also obtain the permit if a revision or addition is made to any existing driveway/access point. Please complete the “Application to Alter Access on a Wood County Highway” application and read the below “Access Control Ordinance” for more information on construction and alterations.

Work in a County Highway Right-of-Way

Cost: see application

Any time work in the right-of-way of a County Trunk Highway (excluding mowing) is performed, other than alteration or addition of an access point, you will need to obtain a "Work in the Right-of-Way Permit". Oversized / Overweight Load

Oversized Cost: $ 50.00 - $150.00
Overweight Cost: $ 50.00

When moving an oversized load on any Wood County Trunk Highway, whereby the load will be over length, width, height, or weight, you must obtain an Oversized Load Permit.

Special Event - Detour

No fee

Permit to be obtained whenever there is a type of function or gathering that is to take place on a County Trunk Highway whereby traffic is to be delayed or detoured.

Special Event Permit Application

Implements of Husbandry

No fee

Permit to be obtained whenever there is a need to operate Implements of Husbandry (IoH) and Agricultural Commercial Vehicles (Ag CMV) over the new weight and length limits pursuant to Wisconsin Act 377 on any Wood County Trunk Highway.

No Fee Permit Application For All Self Propelled, Towed, or Attached Implements of Husbandry and Agricultural Commercial Motor Vehicles
